Sneaker News: February 4, 2009

At the end of the day, sometimes we just want classic silhouettes in wearable colors. Here’s a simple Air Max 90 that should be U.S-bound in a few weeks. [KOF]

Yo Jeff Staple, these black-on-black Sea Stars crap on your Converse Pigeon design. Isn’t that ironic. [Ctothejl]

Reebok continues the Reverse Jam overload. Two new colorways have hit overseas as part of a “Splatter” pack. [Hypebeast]

Lakai caters to Japanese skaters (?) with two sick colorups of the Telford. What’s up no love for the U.S? Oh well, back to Dunks. [Nice Kicks]

This new Converse All Star Owari-Shippo Hi glows in the dark, which means they’re just like the Yeezys. Only joking they’re nothing like them at all. [High Snobiety]

DC Shoes Rips Off The Vans Half Cab?

Every streetwear brand doing a flannel is one thing, but when a big company tries to rip off the greatest skate shoe of all time, it needs to understand that there’s going to be backlash. Come on guys! DC Shoes just posted its Spring 2009 line-up on dcshoes.com and we couldn’t help but be alarmed by the similarities between the Smith 2.0 S model and Vans’ iconic Half Cab silhouette. Did someone from Vans defect? Were they “inspired” by the Half-Cab? Maybe none of the above, maybe all of the above, but if you thought no one was going to notice, you were mistaken. We’re always on patrol like Ricky Ross.

Ripping off Air Force 1s and Nike Dunks is common practice in the land of sneaker manufacturing, but jacking the Half Cab is a first. Maybe Ryan Smith just loved Caballero so much that he wanted his pro model to look exactly the same. Oh well. At least it’s not as bad as the Levi’s/Supra thing. Have a look for yourself after the jump.

Rick Ross Pony Shoe Cancelled

Rick Ross is having a tough Friday. Not only did Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson unleash a verbal assault on the hefty cop-turned-rapper, but we’ve exclusively heard that Pony has cancelled his first signature shoe.

The sneaker was supposed to drop in three different colorways, but Pony has halted production due to Ross’s shady past, as a Correctional Officer. Sources close to the brand say that they want to steer clear of the whole cop controversy, and didn’t want to have to face the whole usual “eff the pigs” type backlash . To see (cough, cough) arresting photos of the three sneakers that were supposed to drop, hit the jump.

Michael Jordan “G” Ad 1987 Slam Dunk Contest

Gatorade has continued its quest for its new name “G” to stick. We got a hold of this new ad that features the iconic image of Michael Jordan reverse-jamming from the 1987 Slam Dunk Contest that was held in Seattle.

Slow news day? Nah, the picture is a classic, and he’s wearing the O.G Jordan IIs, something we know all your sneaker-fiends go ga-ga over. If you missed the Lil Wayne narrated commercial that introduced “G”, hit the jump for a refresher.

Kanye West’s Semi-Full Louis Vuitton Collection

The red Kanye sneakers leaked last week, now one of ‘Ye’s favorite blogs Selectism was blessed with more clean shots of Mr. West’s low-tops.

You know the specs already; simple, low, with a bulky flap on the back so your tight jeans can be tucked in easily. Check the range minus the mustard colorway after the cut.

Glow In The Dark Nike Coraline Dunks

Besides Kanye mania, these Coraline Dunks have been the talk of the blogosphere for the past several days. Designed by members of the Wieden + Kennedy squad (Rob Heppler and Gian Galang) the sneakers feature movie props like oversized animal lace locks and tails on the heel of the sneaker.

We’re not sure how wearable they are (tails, really?), but the fact that you’ll only be able to win them through Coraline.com has got sneaker-nerds pissing their tight pants. The movie opens February 6, and clues on how to score a pair will be given in the closing credits. Pay attention kiddies. More pics including a nice shot of the glow in the dark soles below…

Sneaker News: January 26th, 2009

There have been a few posts today on the Sergio Rossi x Puma women’s shoes. They’re at Colette if you’re buying. Here’s an image we snagged of all three Clyde colorways.

Something must have happened over at the Gravis headquarters, because next season’s shoes look good. Maybe it was that “We can’t fuck this up again” memo. [Sneaker Freaker]

Antuwan Dixon is getting his own Supra. Watch out. [Kicks on Fire]

Whoa. Air Huarache Light Bursts in the Jordan 11 colorup. These are super Asia, but super sick. [Tenisufki]

Check detail images of the Air Jordan 2K9 Limited Edition Black version. [Sneaker Files]

Kanye’s Louis Vuitton Weekend Continues

You thought we were going to stop covering Kanye West’s Louis Vuitton extravaganza 2009? Wrong. This time, little Louis took to a video from his plush hotel room to let everyone know he now will be named “Martin Louie The King Jr.” Hehe. Now you can celebrate MLK day everyday on KanyeWest.com.

Pointer Taylor

It’s clear that Kanye has the Internets on lock this week, but if you’ve feeling Louis Vuitton Don overload, come back down to earth with these Pointer Taylors.

The Taylor manages to bridge the gap between high-class venues, and kicks ready for sloppy nights at the beach club. This new sand-tone colorway is part of the London-based brand’s spring collection, and should hit stores in the U.S like the Reed Space, and American Rag in the next few weeks. More shots when you hit the jump.
